His daily activities involve partnering with a wide variety of companies from the hair care arena to provide contract testing, contract research, and consulting services. In addition, he also organizes, facilitates, and teaches TRI’s two annual hair training classes. He has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and trade magazines, and his research activities have twice been recognized by the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, earning Evans both the Caudelli and Shaw Mudge Awards. Michael J. Flagler is a research scientist at The Procter & Gamble Company whose current research focus areas include investigating changes in hair fiber properties as a result of chronological aging, scalp and hair biology, and hair hydration. Flagler earned his Bachelor’s in Microbiology/Molecular Biology from Miami University, Oxford, OH, in 2004, where he was the recipient of a Howard Hughes Research Internship. He completed his doctorate. in Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, and Microbiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2010, where his thesis research focused on the molecular and structural properties of bacterial toxins involved in causing human disease. He was the recipient of a doctoral fellowship from the Albert J. Ryan Foundation and has published numerous original research articles in the area of toxin biology/biochemistry and protein science. Dr. Flagler has applied his expertise in protein science and biochemistry to develop new methodologies to measure changes to hair structure using proteomics, receiving the award for best scientific paper for his presentation at the 4th International Conference on Applied Hair Science in 2010.
