529 Author Biographies Harold Bryant is vice president of research and innovation at L′Oréal USA. He received his Bachelor’s in Chemistry from Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, followed by a Master’s and doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. He has built a successful 18-year career in the cosmetics industry, including 11 years in Unilever’s Measurement Science division for their hair and deodorants business unit. Recently, as director of The L′Oréal Institute for Ethnic Hair and Skin Research, he led a multi- disciplinary team of advanced degreed scientists to deliver unique knowledge about the ethnic consumer and technological advances to serve their needs. Prior to assuming his as director of the Institute in 2007, he started his career with L′Oréal in 2004, taking responsibility for the Chemistry program within the Institute. He has coauthored a number of publications and is an accomplished speaker who has presented the Institute’s work as an invited speaker at national and international dermatology and other industry meetings. Dr. Bryant is a member of the American Chemical Society. Thomas L. Dawson, Jr. is a principal scientist in beauty technology for The Procter & Gamble Company, where his research has focused on the scalp, hair follicle, fungal biology, host/commensal interactions, and dandruff biology.
